Internship for High School Students

Administrative Internship Program for High School Students

The Electric Way is thrilled to announce the launch of its first Administrative Internship Program geared toward high school students eager to learn more about the inner-workings of a small business. As teenagers begin applying for their first jobs, many choose to apply to chain restaurants and retail. These positions tend to require minimal skill requirements and still offer a steady paycheck. Co-Owner, Maria Hopmayer reflected on her own teenage children and their employment experience so far. She says, “Your first job teaches you so much! You start learning what your time is worth, but also about who you are as part of a team and what a healthy (or unhealthy) work culture looks like.”

The Electric Way’s Administrative Internship Program is now on the front-lines of those teachable moments. Another owner, Jessica Thompson, describes it as “more than an entry-level job, we want to mentor these kids to give them a leg up in the future. If they are thinking of owning their own business one day, they may want to see what our operating costs look like. If they are interested in marketing, I might have them help develop our social media strategy or dig in behind the scenes of our website. The point is for them to contribute in their basic administrative job duties, but then build their own ideal internship based on what they are interested in (or could be interested in in the future).”

While the internship program is still in its infantile stages, the framework is designed for students:

  • 16 years or older
  • With reliable transportation
  • With flexibility in their course schedule to dedicate at least 2 days per week during regular business hours

As a rotating program, The Electric Way is prepared to bring on one or two motivated students per semester. Contact Jessica@TheElectricWay.com to gather more information or APPLY TODAY.
